Our mission is to treat our customers to a cheerful, welcoming
place to look at books and meet other readers and literary folk.
We seek to make it as easy as possible for people to find the
books they want in a way that's personal, comfortable and fun!

Humpus Bumpus Books opened on August 6, 1990, a time of great
change and upheaval in the retail sector. National chain stores
were beginning to burgeon and the internet was growing exponentially
each year. Independent bookstores began closing by the thousands
around the country as they were caught unprepared to deal with
the sweeping changes in technology and in business at the retail
level. It was into this tumultuous business climate that Humpus
Bumpus Books set out to commence operations as a local used
and new bookstore.
Our local community immediately greeted Humpus Bumpus enthusiastically
and warmly. It was obvious that there was a need for a personal
bookstore in our town but Humpus Bumpus would have to be nimble
in the face of turbulent change in order to survive. During
the next 14 years, Humpus Bumpus has kept itself relevant by
making three major renovations and additions to its store, reaching
out to the global community with a virtual bookstore and by
launching a non-profit writers' group to support writers as
well as readers. The only aspect of our store that has not changed
is our commitment to service. Every customer is important to
us and our goal is to match every customer with the book he
or she wants.
 The flavor of Hometown,
America is rapidly turning to vanilla. As chain stores exercise
ever greater dominion over our lives, the character of each
town is becoming more and more like that of every other town.
This dilutes the local flavor of our communities and makes towns
boring! Chain retailers also drain local communities of needed
capital as they send their revenues to their headquarters in
other cities. Locally owned retailers, by contrast, spend most
of their profits right in their own towns. Humpus Bumpus Books
benefits people in ways that chain stores don't. Doing business
with us helps our community. Plus, where else can you shop and
get to speak to the owner and his trusted staff any time? We'll
always appreciate your business!
